The trip to the LifeLab at the Centre for Life in Newcastle has finally been confirmed, so the Year 13’s will be enjoying learning about Polymerase Chain Reaction and Electrophoresis techniques on Thurday 20th November. This is a chance to carry out modern genetic techniques on your own DNA. Staff at the LifeLab will be leading the session but the students will be doing all of the work. It will be a great way to learn this important technique.
It is expected that all students studying A2 biology will be on the trip. The cost of the trip is £17 which includes transport between Darlington and Newcastle train stations (students will have to make their own way to Darlington – talk to a member of staff if you think this will be a problem). It is important that we have consent forms before the day of the trip, preferably well in advance, so get your forms and money in as soon as possible.
It should be a great day. Be careful though! You can become too enthusiastic about PCR…
